■ Mariah tunes up to enthral music lovers

American pop music diva Mariah Carey will enthral music lovers tonight with a mix of ballards dance-pop music. Mariah at a late night press conference yesterday said she will be singing some of here favourite songs during the Dubai concert. Mariah's concert in Dubai, part of her Charmbracelet world tour, follows the unprecedented success of Craig David concerts.

Mariah's live concert in Dubai is set to be the season's biggest and most highly anticipated live entertainment event. The concert will be staged at Dubai Media City amphithetre in association with Qatar Airways. Doors open at 7pm, and the concert starts at 9pm. "Mariah Carey is one of the most talented, successful and best loved artistes around the world. She is a true Diva who can move from glossy ballads to hip-hop-inspired dance-pop hits with great ease and so appeals to audiences of all ages and nationalities," said Thomas Ovesen, Mirage Promotions Dubai, General Manager.

Since she began her career, Mariah Carey has gone on to become the best-selling female performer of all time.

■ Mariah to perform at Nick Traina Foundation benefit

It's the biggest dilemma in town: Should one attend Danielle Steel's biennial Star Ball, a benefit for her late son's Nick Traina Foundation, or former runway model Tatiana Sorokko's 50th birthday party for her husband Serge? Both occur May 1.

Some people have been invited to both, and heck if they know what to do. Danielle's party features singer Mariah Carey; Tatiana tried to get Donna Summer, but no go. "For $250,000, I can sing myself,'' Tatiana said. Danielle's party costs $500 a ticket; Tatiana's is free.

■ アラブ圏で自身初となるベイルート公演を開催

現在ワールド・ツアー中のマライア・キャリーが、2月24日にレバノンのベイルートで、アラブ圏で自身初となるコンサートを開催しました。ベイルート到着時には、イスラム教国を意識して、全身を覆い隠した服装のマライアでしたが、ステージ上にはセクシーなヘソ出し衣装で登場。ヒット曲を中心に、約90分のショウを披露しています。なお、約5000人の観客の中には、レバノンの大統領夫人も含まれていたのだそうです。

ベイルート到着時の写真がどこからも出てこないのでどんな服着てたのかちょっと見てみたいですね〜。でもステージでは反対に脱いでもOKだったなんて変ですね（笑）

American pop star Mariah Carey arrived in Labanon via Beirut International Airport late last night around 2am. The singer went immediately to her suite at the Movenpick Resort, where she posed for photographers during a press conference held at the hotel. Carey is in Beirut for a concert on Tuesday, February 24.

■ Carey wows Malaysian fans

Mariah and her back-up singers at Stadium Merdeka.
KUALA LUMPUR: The fans went wild as Mariah Carey, seated at the back of a BMW convertible, made her appearance at the start of her 90-minute show at the Merdeka Stadium yesterday.

Clad in a pair of blue jeans and a pink spaghetti-strapped top, the diva kicked off her first-ever concert in Malaysia with the upbeat song Heartbreaker, taken from her 1999 Rainbow album as the BMW drove her into the stadium. Fans rushed towards the award-winning singer to get a closer look at their idol, who arrived fresh from her sell-out concerts in Jakarta and Bangkok. Carey's prima-donna attitude took a different turn when she made several adjustments in her appearance here to conform to local customs and sensitivities.

Even though she made several disappearances from the stage, Carey reappeared wearing the same outfit again. Later, Carey told fans that she normally changed costumes about eight times between performances but this time she had to make an exception. “I’m sorry that I’m so boring but I’m just playing by the rules,” she said.

The 33-year-old singer said she was abiding by the dress code regulations of the Government and decided to stick to one “safe” outfit. The fans were undeterred by her unprecedented compromise on her clothing. Despite a slight drizzle in the late afternoon, about 30,000 excited fans, both young and old, thronged the stadium, with some of them coming as early as 5pm. Paul Munro, a broadcaster from Australia who came to Malaysia for a holiday in November, even extended his stay just to catch a glimpse of his favourite singer.

Munro, a Carey fan who has all her albums and knows all her songs, said his extended stay was decided on at the last minute because he only found out about the concert four weeks earlier. Local singer Vincent Chong, better known as Vince, was also spotted outside the stadium before the concert started. “I’m really a big fan of Mariah Carey and have always dreamed of doing a duet with her,” said the Akademi Fantasia 2003 winner. The concert, which started at 9.30pm, saw Carey perform 15 of her hit songs, including My All, Without You, Hero, Always Be My Baby, Through The Rain and Butterfly.

注目のコンサートですがなんと上記の写真の衣装（APシャツにロングパンツ）のみで９０分間コンサートを行ったようです（笑）いつも８回は必ずやる衣装替えする姫ですが、この日ばかりは国の規制に従いこの衣装でしかできなかったようです。よって普段の着替えTimeには一旦バックステージに下がり次の出番が来るまでのんびりして時間を持て余していたようです（笑）休憩できてよかったじゃんね〜（笑）しかし私達マライアのライブで見慣れてるせいか８〜９回に及ぶ衣装替えって普通に思えてるけれど、よく考えたら普通はもっと少ないし、１着だけで最後までやってしまうのも当たりまえ〜なのよね。そういう意味では普通といえば普通なんでしょうが、Mariahファンから見ると物足りないというのが本音ですね....。

Thuesday 04 of November 2003, female singer Mariah Carey gave a sensational show in PARIS-BERCY in front of 17 000 fans. Mariah Carey sang all her greatest hits from the first Vision Of Love, to Hero, Heartbreaker, Fantasy, My All... and Throught The Rain. The singer showed during this concert all her talent and she very gave a lot to the public.

We really hope to tribute artists like Mariah Carey, song writter. This hommage could be the edition of a DVD presenting the whole show given in Paris-Bercy. This DVD would be a great way to share this magic moment to all who did'nt have the chance to see the singer performing live.

■ Carey-Ed Away By Diva’s Warmth



Shouts of “Mariah, I love you” and “Oh my god, oh my god!” from the public greeted Mariah Carey as she walked across the arrival hall at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) soon after her arrival last night.

The American pop diva, who was accompanied by an entourage, is performing a concert tonight at Stadium Merdeka, themed “An Intimate Evening With Mariah Carey - The Charmbracelet Tour”.Although her concert here has been well-publicised, the presence of the superstar at KLIA stunned locals and foreigners alike.

As Carey, flanked by burly bodyguards, made her way to a waiting car that would take her to her hotel in the city, she smiled and waved, prompting delirious shouts of appreciation by her fans.Earlier, a crowd of curious onlookers gathered where the media were converging, outside the VIP lounge to wait for Carey’s arrival.

As soon as Carey emerged from the lounge, some of the fans screamed her name. This had a ripple effect as more and more people began to be aware of her presence, and even a group of Japanese tourists got interested.

Mohamed Zamir Abd Ghani, 22, a student at Uniten, jumped and shouted with joy as soon as he caught sight of Carey leaving the airport in her car. “I cannot afford the tickets to her concert as all the cheaper ones were sold out, so I just wanted to see her up close at the airport,” said Zamir. Azwani Azmi, 22, a student at the Multimedia University, was also happy to be able to get close to Carey as she walked past.

“I found out from the net (about her flight time) and decided to come and see her,” said Azwani. Carey, fresh from her concerts in Thailand and Indonesia, wore a low-cut tight black dress... which made those who saw her wonder what she would be wearing tonight.

クアラルンプールに到着した姫を多くの報道陣とファンが出迎えていたようで姫のあまりの美しさに皆気絶しかかってたそうです（笑）気になる現地での服装ですが、意外といつもどおりの格好でちょっと笑いました。しかもミニドレスだし（笑）中には日本人旅行団体もいたようでマライアが来てることにびっくりしてたようです。ラッキーだな〜。さて、もうライブ終わった頃でしょうか...。ライブ速報を楽しみに待ちましょう。

Mariah’s entourage, amongst others, include singer Trey Lorenz who duet with her on the platinum cover hit of Jackson 5’s ‘ I’ll Be There ’ and the two will deliver the song to Malaysians at the concert. In most of the performances in the Charmbracelet Tour, Mariah usually comes out from the audience in the middle of the show; hence those who bought the tickets on the arena should be on the lookout for some unexpected surprise.

The standard performance duration for any international Artiste is less than 90 minutes, but with an array of #1 hits, Mariah Carey herself has expressed that her performance duration will depend on the response of the crowd at the Merdeka Stadium. As a tip, the more love she gets, the longer the encore!

For the convenience of last minute ticket purchasers - to avoid the Friday traffic jams and hassle, the Stadium Merdeka ticket counter will begin its operation from Wednesday, 18 February 2004, onwards, 12:00p.m. (noon) to 8:00p.m. daily. コカ・コーラ　グループは、11種類の素材の恵みのブレンド茶「爽健美茶」２００４年広告キャンペーンとして、「So Beautiful. 爽健美茶」をスローガンに新広告キャンペーンを展開します。新広告キャンペーン第一弾のTV-CMとして、「織物」篇（１５秒）を2月18日(水）から、「投影・花」篇（１５ / ３０秒）を3月1日（月）から全国で放映を開始します。CM楽曲には、世界の歌姫マライア・キャリーが日本の唱歌に初挑戦。春の名曲「朧月夜」にオリジナルの英語の歌詞をのせて、「爽健美茶」の新しい世界観を表現します。また、爽健美人シリーズが復活し、新”爽健美人”としてCMキャラクターには、モデルの伊藤美樹を新たに起用します。


＜新TV-CM「織物」篇（15秒）について＞



『CMストーリー』
明るく白い空間に、透明の美しいグラスに入った「はとむぎ」「玄米」・・・といったお茶が並んでいる。 その美しい色のお茶が入ったグラスの上を、カメラが、軽やかに空を飛ぶようになぞっていく。 徐々に爽健美茶に入っている11種類すべてのお茶が見えてくる。

すると、それぞれのお茶が下に向かって細く、キレイにこぼれてゆく。カメラはそのお茶の液体を追っていき、 やがてその細いお茶の液体は細い糸になっていく。機織り機に織られ、美しい1枚の織物、そしてブレンド茶へと変わっていく。 ゆったりと風に吹かれてその織物がなびくと、そのゆらめきは爽健美茶のゆらめきへとかわってゆく。

『製作エピソード』
「織物」編は、実写とＣＧの合成で製作しています。11種類のお茶とグラスは実際に撮影をし、 お茶がこぼれていくカット以降はCGで製作し、それを合成してひとつの映像に仕上げています。 今回の映像を製作する上で、最もこだわったのは、「グラスからこぼれて11種類のお茶が糸になり、紡がれて、1枚の 美しい織物に変わっていき、それが爽健美茶につながっていく」という一連の動きをいかに美しく表現するか、など様々な 角度で検討し、ひとつの美しい映像に仕上げていきました。

最後のカットで、「爽健美茶」を飲んでいるのは、新しく2004年の 新”爽健美人”に選ばれた伊藤美樹。透明感のある彼女がおいしそうに爽健美茶を飲むことで爽やかな印象を残しています。


＜新TV-CM「投影・花」篇（30/15秒）について＞



『CMストーリー』
気持ちのよい草原の上、ひとりの女性が佇んでいる。ゆっくりと爽健美茶を口にすると、 彼女の胸元には一輪の小さな花のつぼみが映しだされる。彼女はカラダの中の変化を感じるように、 ゆっくりと目を閉じていく。

胸元の花のつぼみはゆっくりと開いていき、花が開くと同時に水滴が美しく飛び散る。 飛び散った水滴は、彼女の長く美しい手、細くまっすぐな足へと広がっていく。彼女は両手をあげて、 カラダの内側から引き出される美しさを表現する。


『製作エピソード』
「投影・花」篇の撮影は、タイ西部カンチャナプリ・スワングリープブァ( SUAN GRIP BUA＝スワンは公園、グリープブァは蓮の花弁を意味します。）で 行われました。バンコクから約１８０ｋｍの場所にあり、近くには映画「戦場に架ける橋」の舞台となったクワイ川鉄橋があります。 撮影時期は昨年の１２月中旬。爽やかなグリーンと青い空を求めて、タイでの海外ロケとなりました。タイはその時期乾季で、天候が安定しているということも ロケ場所に選ばれた理由の一つです。

2004年の新”爽健美人”に選ばれた伊藤美樹は、透明感のある、手足が美しく長い２２歳の女性。撮影ではいかに彼女の美しさを引き出せるかを考え、 ポーズやカメラアングルを決めていきました。胸元の花はCGで製作。「爽健美茶」を飲むと、自分の内面から美しさが引き出されていく様を表現しています。飛び散った 水滴が彼女の長く美しい手足へ広がります。美しい映像とマライア・キャリーの美しい歌声のマッチングが、見どころです。

昨日から全国で一斉に爽健美茶のCMがOAされましたが皆さん見れましたか？さて、この今放送されているCMは「織物」篇で次の新しいヴァージョン「投影・花」篇は３月１日よりOAされるようです。本人の登場はまだ暫く先のようですね...。ってか本当にでるのでしょうか...？（苦笑）

■ Mariah Appears On Next Sokenbicha Commercials

I'm sure by now most Mariah fans are aware of Mariah's new deal with Coca-Cola Japan where she sings a remake of the Japanese hit Misty Moon, but what you may not know is the aspects of her deal.Mariah has signed a 25 million deal with the bevarege Company which will see her sing in 3 commercials and she will also appear in print ads in Magazines for Japan over the course of the next 2 years. She will also shoot a commercial next month in Singapore for the product. The product has been very popular in Japan since it was intorduced to the Japanese Market in 2002 but sales have declined slightly. As part of Mariah's deal, if sales of the product improve while her TV and magazines ads are in rotation, then she'll recieve a part of the profits.

おぉ〜！最近は立て続けによいニュースが多く嬉しいですね。どうやらMariahはコカコーラーと2年で2500万の契約をしている模様。そして3回にわけてＣＭがＯＡされるようです。また、雑誌や広告にも掲載されるようで、なんといってもMariah様本人がお茶の間にネスカフェ以来久々に登場するようです。18日からのＣＭは本人は出演しませんが次のCMから登場するようです。尚、来月シンガポールでこのCM撮影をするようです。どうせなら日本で撮影して欲しいですね。本当にまた楽しみが増えましたね♪

■ MARIAH WINS AN AWARD AT MTV ASIA VMA 2004




Mariah Carey was honoured today at the MTV Asia 2004 Awards. She received a Life Time Achievement Award from the British Pop Act "Blue".

Mariah collected the award wearing the pink number seen in the photo`s. She did not perform at the show and appeared only to collect her award and give a small speech thanking everyone at MTV Asia, especially all her fans out there in Asia. "I can`t thankyou enough"

今日もビックリニュースが入ってきましたね！昨夜、MTV Asia Awards 2004に出席するために姫は韓国からシンガポールへ飛びました。この授賞式で　”Life Time Achievement Award ” という「生涯の偉業賞」と名付けられた功労賞を受賞したようです。歌は歌わなかったものの「私をいつも応援してくれてるアジアの全てのファンに感謝します！ありがとう！」っと簡単にスピーチしたようです。姫の登場時間は約2分ぐらいだったようでプレゼンターのBlueから可愛いエンジェルトロフィーを受け取ったようです。尚、この番組は日本時間の3月13日(土) 20:00~ 21:30にMTVで放送されますのでお見逃しなく！

先日の釜山コンサートですが結構短かったという報告がありましたがセットリスト見るとほんと削られてますね。SIやBOTHが見れないのはちょっと寂しいですね。衣装は殆ど前と同じで黒いドレスを新しく着ていたそうです。Heroでは初めからステージサイドから現れたようで最初っから大混乱になっていたらしいです。詳しくは現地に言ったABEBE君のレポートを楽しみに待っていましょう。

CMに使われている部分を聞くことができます。私の朧月夜の印象はもっとゆったりした感じだったのでこれを聞くとやっぱ15秒の枠の中である程度歌ってしまわないといけないので結構早く感じますね。でも優しい姫の声とポカポカ春の陽射しが感じれる和やかな雰囲気でいい感じですね。これ是非商品化して欲しいですが、今のところユニヴァーサルに確認したところ予定はないという事でした。ただ、今朝のTVなどのニュース発表から朝からユニバの方へ結構な問い合わせが殺到していたらしく１８日のＣＭ解禁後もこの問い合わせは増えると思われます。問い合わせ好評につき緊急リリース決定！なんて有り得る話ですので皆でまた署名活動しましょうか？！リリースしたら是非日本語でのヴァージョンも聞きたいですね！

■ 2004年の「爽健美茶」CM楽曲は、マライアが歌う「朧月夜(おぼろづきよ)」(「MISTY MOON」)に決定！

コカ・コーラ グループの「カラダの内側からキレイにしてくれる自然の恵み豊か なブレンド茶」爽健美茶の2004年の広告キャンペーンのCM楽曲をマライア・キャ リーが歌うことになりました。「Ｓｏ　Ｂｅａｕｔｉｆｕｌ．爽健美茶」というスローガンで展開されるこのキャンペーンのコンセプトをＣＭで伝えようとする時、映像の美しさは勿論のこと、音楽も非常に重要なファクターとなりました。そこで実現したのが爽健美茶と マライア・キャリーのコラボレーションです。マライアが歌い上げる曲は、日本人 になじみの深い代表的な唱歌「朧月夜」のオリジナル英詞カバーバージョン。

「美」「自然の恵み」をテーマとする「爽健美茶」。美しく耳なじみのよいメロディーで誰の心にも親しみと叙情への深い共感が自ず と湧きあがる名曲、「朧月夜」。
世界で最も「美」しいと言われる歌声を持ち、世界的アーチストの中では日本に 対する愛着がもっとも深いといわれるマライア・キャリー。新しくカバーされた「朧月夜」をマライアが想いを込めて歌い上げることによっ て、ＣＭの映像と共に新しい爽健美茶の「Ｓｏ　Ｂｅａｕｔｉｆｕｌ．」な世界を美しく、余すところなく表現します。

　米人気歌手、マライア・キャリー（３３）が日本の楽曲のカバーに初挑戦したことが１１日、分かった。大正時代の唱歌「朧月夜（おぼろづきよ）」のオリジナル英語バージョンを、ブレンド茶「爽健美茶」の新ＣＭソングとして収録したもの。のどかな春の風景をしっとりと歌い上げたマライアは「とても良い仕上がりになった」と自信満々。ＣＤリリースの予定は現段階ではなく、１８日スタートのＣＭで“限定オンエア”される。

英題「ＭＩＳＴＹ　ＭＯＯＮ」
　米国を代表する歌姫と、日本の伝統的唱歌の“ブレンド”が実現した。爽健美茶の今年の広告キャンペーンスローガン「Ｓｏ　Ｂｅａｕｔｉｆｕｌ．　爽健美茶」のもと、マライアと唱歌のコラボレーションが企画され、マライア側も快諾した。

　マライアがカバーした「朧月夜」は大正時代に誕生した。日本ののどかな春の田園風景を描いた叙情歌の傑作。今回、楽曲は英題「ＭＩＳＴＹ　ＭＯＯＮ」として新たに生まれ変わった。

　マライアは昨年末から今年初めにかけて米ニューヨークでレコーディング。作業に集中するため、本人とピアニスト、サウンドエンジニアの３人のみでスタジオにこもった。２００４年発表の最初の楽曲となるだけあって、いつも以上の気合の入れよう。日本人にはおなじみのメロディーに英語の歌詞を乗せて、７オクターブの歌姫と評される美声を披露した。

　「すてきな日本のブレンド茶にふさわしい美しく優雅な世界が広がっていくように、心をこめて歌いました」。日本の楽曲のカバーは初挑戦だったが、収録はスムーズに進行。「すてきな機会となりました。メロディーも美しい曲で、良い仕上がりになったと思います」と振り返った。

　過去に４回の来日公演を行っているマライアは、同曲を歌ったことで「日本の春と言えば桜の美しい季節と聞いています。春に日本に行けたらうれしいですね」とさらに日本に興味が増した様子。現在はワールドツアーの真っ最中で来日予定はないが、「この曲を気に入っていただけることを願っています。近々お会いしましょう」とファンにメッセージを送った。楽曲は現段階ではＣＭ限定。ＣＤ化、来日を望む声が殺到しそうだ。

　▼朧月夜　「春の小川」「春が来た」などの名曲を残した作詞・高野辰之、作曲・岡野貞一のゴールデンコンビが１９１４年（大正３年）に制作。長期間にわたって作詞・作曲不詳の「文部省唱歌」とされていたが、戦後に作者名が明らかになった。美しく分かりやすいメロディーと、春の田園風景の見事な描写が特徴。現在まで多くの人に歌われている。

■ CAREY TO PERFORM ON 20 FEB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mariah Carey concert, initially scheduled for Feb 22, has been brought forward to Feb 20.

Apart from the change in the date, everything else on Carey`s Charmbracelet World Tour 2004 Live In Malaysia remains the same, according to a statement by organisers Galaxy Production. Deputy Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said yesterday the date change came about because of requests from fans.

“They wanted the concert to be held on Friday so that they could enjoy the weekend.” The organisers, in a press release, said those who had bought tickets to the concert must present them at Stadium Merdeka. “We will make a full refund for those who cannot make it on Feb 20,” the statement said.

Tickets to Carey`s concert have been set at RM68, RM138, RM178, RM228, RM268 and RM338, excluding the RM1 processing fee per ticket. The concert begins at 8pm. For details, call the ticketing hotline at 03-2282-2020, or browse www.galaxy.com.my.

何かと話題が尽きないこのマレーシアのコンサートですがイスラム教徒の強い反対が開催日を変更させることになりました。少し早まり２月２０日にコンサートを行うようになったようです。まさに「郷に入れば郷に従え」状態ですな（苦笑）まぁこれで丸く収まるならいいんですけど...せっかく行くのになんか姫気の毒だね..。

We just started working on a new record and I think you're gonna see a lot of different stuff from her. We're gonna pull out all the stops and try some different things. You gonna see her return to what she was doing years ago with the "Vision of Love" period. She's already got a couple of hot joints already but we're gonna take our time and make it right.

Peteyg84u: When Mariah Carey performed on "Saturday Night Live," was that you in the back with the flat top playing the keyboard?

That was me back in the day. Everybody has to go through those moment, I had many different doos: dreads, 'fros in all colors, I had to experience mines. I like to try everything, that's why cut it all off now. I can't deal with it. It's too much, man.

ランディー・ジャクソンがインタビューでMariahの新作について少しお話してくれました。もうすでにこのインタビューからみると半分は出来てるような感じですね。いくつか今までとは違った感じの曲が何曲かあったりもするしVOLのような雰囲気を感じさせる曲もあったり、また旬のサウンドを取り入れていたりといった感じのようです。個人的にはVOLのような初期の頃が蘇るのが楽しみですが、お決まりのリメイクソングも次は何か楽しみの一つでもあります。

■ MARIAH CONCERT IN MEXICO




Mariah Carey got flatteries in Guadalajara, Mexico . Freeing the barrier of the language and with some mentions to Mexico and Guadalajara, the singer Mariah Carey did a concert for less than one hour for 20 thousand of people reunited in the Extravaganza convention of the Omnilife Group.

At the beginning of the show, at 14:30 hours, the audience cheered her when the singer appeared with a small dress and a small blouse with a Harley Davidson logo.

The singer took applause with songs like "My All", "My Saving Grace", "Without You" and "I`ll be there". When she finished the show she had a dialogue with Jorge Vergara, president of the Omnilife Group, and she left the JVC at 15:40 hours.

■ WILL PATTI GET A DIVAS LIVE?

R&B superdiva Patti LaBelle may finally get her just desserts with this year`s “Divas Live” festivities. An inside source over at Viacom tells The RU Report that producers of the annual VH1 fund-raising concert special –named VH1 Divas, this year-- have formulated a “working list” of top-notch female performers and Ms. LaBelle is at the top of the confirmed list. It`s about time.

This year`s seventh annual VH1 Divas event, "VH1 Divas," will air live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on April 18th at 9:00 pm. Every Shakira, Jewel and Nelly Furtado have appeared on previous shows -- which showcases the phenomenal talent and spirit of legendary singers like Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Gloria Estafan Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

今年のDivas Liveはパティ・ラベルトリビュートが決まっていますが、姫は呼ばれるのでしょうか...？周期的に今年あたりまた出演してもいい頃ですが。パティとは以前も共演しているしプライベートでも付き合いがある仲なので出演する確率が高いだろうと思います。レディー・マーマレイド過激にやって欲しいですね。

■ MARIAH LOOKING FOR HER LEADING MAN

Mariah Carey is scouting Britain for a leading man to appear opposite her in the superstar`s London stage debut.
The diva is playing Elsie Marina, the part made famous by Marilyn Monroe in the 1957 movie, in a West End production of The Prince And The Showgirl.

And instead of casting a big name Brit to play Sir Laurence Olivier`s role as Charles, The Prince Regent, Carey is looking for an unknown. Carey has agreed to work for the union minimum wage during her run in the show.

アルバムリリースの為かロンドンでのミュージカルが年末まで延期になり、もしかしてこのまま流れてしまうのかと思っていましたが、ちゃんと準備は進められているようで相手役の男優さんを只今探しているようです。まだまだ先の話なので本当にちゃんとやるんでしょうか....。舞台をやるよりもまた新しいアルバムのライブをやって欲しいのですが...。

■ 議論呼ぶ「偉大なアルバム500」

米ローリング・ストーン誌が発表した「音楽史上最も偉大なアルバムベスト500」が米国の音楽ファンの間で論議を呼んでいる。
　このランキングは同誌が昨年11月に発表。1位はビートルズの「サージェント・ペパーズ・ロンリー・ハーツ・クラブ・バンド」（67年）で、ビートルズはこのほか「リボルバー」「ラバー・ソウル」「ザ・ビートルズ」の計4枚がベスト10入り。ボブ・ディランは「追憶のハイウェイ61」と「ブロンド・オン・ブロンド」、ローリング・ストーンズは「メイン・ストリートのならず者」が10位以内に入っている。
　一方でエルトン・ジョンは「グッバイ・イエロー・ブリック・ロード」の91位が最高、サイモン＆ガーファンクルも「明日にかける橋」の51位が最高だ。またベスト10はほとんどが60〜70年代のアルバムで、ベスト100を見ても80年代以降のアルバムは少ない。マライア・キャリー、マドンナも100位以内に入っていない。この結果をめぐってファンの間では「選考が60年代に偏っている」「ラップ系が上位に入っていないのはおかしい」などとネットなどで意見が相次いでいる。米名門音楽誌が初めて発表したアルバムランキングの反響は、予想以上に大きかったようだ。

確かに大御所がエントリーするのは当然と言えば当然なのでしょうが年代が偏ってるのも確かですね。音楽も服と同じで周っているのも事実ですが、７０年代以降も１００位圏内に入る偉大なアルバムって私もあると思います。マライアのDaydreamあたりは質の高さから言っても圏内に入っていてもおかしくないと思うのですが...。セールスとは比例しない選考とはいえ、少々首を傾げる結果だと私も思います。

■ マライア・キャリーinツーソン　〜砂漠の町からメリークリスマス〜

砂漠の田舎町に、世界の歌姫がやってきた！

私が今住んでいる米国・アリゾナ州ツーソンは、広大な砂漠に囲まれたのどかな田舎町である。 その町で、世界に名だたるシンガーであるマライア・キャリーがコンサートを開くという。 「マライア・キャリーinツーソン」これ以上に不釣合いなフレーズを見つけるのは、困難を極めるに違いない。

開演１０分前、会場はすでに熱気に包まれていた。そしていよいよ開演時刻になり、観客が席に着く。しかし、待てども待てども肝心のマライア・キャリーは姿を現さない。 ３０分、１時間とただ時間だけが過ぎていく。これだけの時間を待たされても、大きな混乱や衝突が起きないのは、ツーソンののどかさをよく表していると言える。それからさらに３０分が過ぎ、観客の我慢も限界に差し掛かってきたとき、ふいにライトがすべて落とされた。世界の歌姫が、ついにツーソンのステージへと降り立ったのだ。

最初は苛立ちを見せていた観客も、マライアが歌い始めるとすぐに、興奮の渦へと巻き込まれていった。それだけ、彼女が見せたパフォーマンスは力強く、エネルギーに満ち溢れていた。マライアの歌声は、耳ではなく、心に直接響いているように感じられるくらい、澄んでいた。“a hero lies in you”「ヒーローは君の中にいる」彼女は力の限り、私たちにそう歌いかけていた。

ツーソンでのコンサートは一夜限り。マライアは、まさに砂漠に吹き荒れる砂嵐のように、突然こののんびりした町に現れ、そして去って行った。しかし、彼女が私たちに残した、あの頭のてっぺんから足のつま先までが一気にしびれるような衝撃は、いつになっても私たちの心から消え去ることはないだろう。

コンサートの最後を締めたのは、この時期日本の至る所で流れているあの曲。 “All I want for Christmas is you”。 砂漠の田舎町ツーソンから、マライアの歌声に乗せて、メリークリスマス！
